‘Plan for 85 homes has no place here’
7:00am Friday 1st November 2013 in News
Plans for 85 homes in Deddington have “no place in this countryside location” a council boss said at the first day of a public inquiry.
Prudential Pensions Limited has appealed to the independent Planning Inspectorate after Cherwell District Council threw out the Banbury Road plan in May.
Ned Helme, for the council, said the scheme is not in the council blueprint for where major district development should go and enough homes are being built elsewhere.
He told the hearing at the council’s Bodicote HQ: “The proposal would cause very significant harm to the character and appearance of the countryside.”
Anthony Crean, for Prudential, said Deddington is “one of the most sustainable rural settlements in the district” and will make a contribution to housing need.
The appeal is due to finish today.
