THERE were good spirits all around for Halloween.

While trick-or-treaters trawled the county’s dark streets, there were strange apparitions at the Oxford Museum of the History of Science, things went bump in the night at Oxford Central Library and all the ghouls and goblins came out at the Wychwood Brewery in Witney.

Ghost guru Bill Spectre spent the evening leading thrill-seekers on a ghost tour of Oxford.

He said: “We had a massive turnout and there were good spirits all around.

“Oxfordshire is a great place for ghosts. Anywhere that has had a lot of people passing through will have had a lot of trauma and drama that can leave its impression on the buildings.”

At the Museum of the History of Science in Broad Street, education officer Chris Parkin wasn’t planning to have a spooky night, it just turned out that way.

He helped about 70 children to cut out cardboard shapes inspired by the museum’s historical scientific instruments, and a few pumpkins crept in.

The artists then projected lights through their creations, and filmed the eerie dancing shadows which emerged Mr Parkin said: “It was more spooky than we had planned. We were creating shadows which had a Halloween quality but that was unintentional.”

A film of the strange shadows will be shown at the museum on Christmas Lights Night on November 22.

Wychwood Brewery in Witney held its annual fright fest and pumpkin parade, including a pumpkin-carving competition.

At Oxford Central Library, children got a spook at Halloween Story Time yesterday.
