Sir Tony fuels debate
7:10am Saturday 2nd November 2013 in News
BANBURY MP Sir Tony Baldry hit out at Labour’s record on energy prices in a Commons debate.
The Conservative said on Thursday there were 20 distributors and suppliers when he helped privatise the industry in 1990.
He said: “How is it that we ended up with only six after the last Government?
“Is it not a bit rich for the Labour party, which opposed privatisation and competition at that time, to call for the breaking up of the big six that it created?”
But Labour energy secretary Caroline Flint said the six firms had to be broken up to separate generation from supply along with a freeze on bills and a “tough” watchdog.
