Pavement trip-ups linked to drain, claims councillor
CONCERNS have been raised about an uneven pavement in Cowley Road.
Councillor Graham Jones said he has been contacted by a number of people who have tripped on the raised area outside the Boots and Tesco stores.
The ward councillor for St Clement’s believes a drain is causing the problem and hopes a meeting with Thames Water will lead to work being undertaken to sort out the problem.
The problem was made more noticeable, he said, after heavy rainfall.
Cllr Jones said: “You only have to go and see for yourself. I don’t think they were laid very well in the first place.
“The pavement is literally collapsing and particularly so around the entrances to the shops. That is why it is so dangerous.
“The drain covers are for the utility company and it is around those where the problems are appearing.
“When we had the rain it got even more noticeable and it is worrying me that there is this risk to pedestrians who use this part of the pavement.”
Thames Water said the issue had not been reported to it but it would contact Mr Jones.
