A waste company has won its bid to use a site near Sutton Courtenay to transfer rubbish between vehicles.

But FCC Environment has insisted the plans will not result in an increase in the volume of waste processed on the site.

The company was last night granted planning permission for the plans to use the materials recycling facility (MRF) near Didcot power station to transfer 60,000 tonnes of black bag rubbish collected in South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse.

Under the plans, waste from the two districts will be brought in by collection lorries, emptied out in warehouses and transferred to articulated lorries for a journey to an incinerator in Ardley, near Bicester, which will be operational next year. Permission was granted by Oxfordshire County Council’s planning and regulation committee despite 64 letters of objection and statements from residents at a meeting at County Hall.

Councillors ruled that the plan, an amended version of a proposal which was thrown out in September, had addressed concerns originally raised.
