CHILDHOOD memories are up for sale at an Oxfam bookshop after a rare copy of Peter Pan was donated.

The 1912 edition is among the unusual books to hit the shelves of the Thame store recently as the charity shop bids to raise hundreds of pounds in its latest appeal.

Other recent donations include a signed copy of Statecraft by Margaret Thatcher worth £175, a rare book by Edwardian animal artist Louis Wain worth £600, a 1914 copy of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream worth £400, and a first edition copy of General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money by John Maynard Keynes which is worth £900.

The copy of JM Barrie’s Peter Pan, with 50 illustrations from artist Arthur Rackham is thought to be worth £300.

Store manager Dick Jennens said: “Arthur Rackham is so collectible and his illustrations are so good. If as a child you grew up with the book you get the whole sentimental draw back to having it again.

“They are just so evocative.”

The charity bookshop has launched its Christmas appeal to raise £1,500 for children refugees in Syria.

The Cornmarket store also raised more than £2,500 for victims of Typhoon Haiyan.
