I AM tickled pink by the extra services on offer from Labour’s draft city council budget (December 5). Labour is proposing weekly food waste collections from all flats in Oxford, late night opening of some of our public toilets and a £600,000 rolling fund for energy saving projects.

It takes some clever housekeeping to increase services to the public under this Coalition Government with Eric Pickles’ constant cutting of cash for local councils. So I make no apology that some charges will unfortunately have to rise if Labour’s budget is approved in the new year.

But we are now consulting about our budget and we want to hear what Oxford Mail readers think. For my money make recycling easier, public toilets more available and, for example, heating the Town Hall with a wood chip boiler, is the right way forward.
