OXFORD United players have caused a stir among youngsters at a special open day.

The footballers were taking part in Unipart’s Talent Factory programme and open day with a group of 14 to 16-year-olds from Matthew Arnold School, St Gregory the Great Catholic School and the Oxford Academy.

Young people enjoyed a day of sports and work-based activities including cooking on Tuesday.

The event began at the company’s base in Cowley and ended at the Oxford Academy.

Luke Hewitt, 14, from the Oxford Academy, said: “I loved it, it was brilliant – it has been good working with the other schools. The coach from Oxford United Football Club has taught us better techniques for passing.”

United players taking part were Max Crocombe, Josh Ruffles, Johnny Mullins and Matt Bevans.

James Lambert, 14, had a go at cooking and said: “We took a fairly relaxed style to cooking, a bit like Jamie Oliver.

“It has been really good fun working with Josh. He knows what he is doing and we got a chance to chat about how he got into football while we were cooking.”
