PLANS for a four-runway hub airport near Abingdon have been rejected by a Government commission.

The Airports Commission, established by the government to solve the problem of Britiain’s airport capacity, has this morning rejected two proposals in Oxfordshire in favour of adding a runway to Heathrow or Gatwick.

Two proposals for land between Marcham and the Hanneys had been submitted to the commission, chaired by Sir Howard Davies, but both have been rejected.

The commission came to the conclusion Oxfordshire would be too far away from London for a hub airport.
