Neighbours have been praised for saving a woman from a fire in her Witney flat.

They heard the fire alarm sounding at St Mary’s Court sheltered housing at 2.30pm on Thursday.

Watch manager Steve Cook from Witney fire station said: “Thank goodness the neighbours heard the fire alarm.

“They did exactly the right thing by getting her out, closing the door on the fire and getting the fire service.”

Ten firefighters from Witney put the fire out.

The woman was checked over at the scene by South Central Ambulance.

Crew manager Chris Rowe said: “We would like to remind all residents to check their smoke alarm every week to ensure it is working correctly.”
