Staff and customers at Sainsbury's in Kidlington have been affected by a series of power cuts throughout the day, and 400 homes in the area have also been hit.
A member of staff at the petrol station linked to the Oxford Road store said there had been four power failures so far.
She added: "The store opened as normal at 10am but each time there is a power cut we have to close - the latest one lasted for about half an hour."
A spokesman for Scottish and Southern Electric power distribution said that about 400 homes in the Kidlington area have been affected as well as the store.
She added that the latest power cut lasted from 2.15pm to just before 3pm and that power has now been restored.
