OXFORD has been named the second best destination in the UK for young people.

The city, which won silver at British Youth Travel Awards 2013, was second only to Scotland.

Visit Oxfordshire head of tourism Jo Butler, who attended the awards ceremony in London in December, said: “We are delighted.

“Youth travel is a key market sector in Oxford and Oxfordshire which boast so many fantastic visitor attractions and offer high quality accommodation specialising in Youth Travel.

“Oxford and Oxfordshire’s strong educational profile, both at university level and in the English-as-a-foreign-language field, is an important factor in their success, of course.”

The Best UK Youth Destination one of 12 categories of award made by the British Educational Travel Association (BETA).

The British Youth Travel Awards were created to recognise the success and professionalism of organisations and individuals in the UK youth, student and educational travel industry.

The latest study by BETA indicates that youth travel is worth over £20 billion to the UK economy.
