A SERIES of restrictions to tackle parking problems in Kidlington have been put on hold.

Oxfordshire County Council intervened after residents complained about “indiscriminate parking” in the Oxford Road eastern side service road.

Drivers have been blamed for using the area as an overspill from the Thames Valley Police HQ, or those choosing to ‘park and ride’ from Gosford or Kidlington into Oxford.

To tackle the problem the authority proposed ‘anti-commuter’ restrictions in the service road, including a mixture of one-hour waiting prohibitions and two-hour limited waiting.

But following public objections this has been put on hold for more consultation.

In a report Mark Kemp, the council’s deputy director for environment and economy said that the proposals for the eastern service road of Oxford Road should not proceed and should be deferred for further local consultation to reconsider the impact on the western service road and any additional restrictions.

A related scheme, which will see no waiting parking restrictions introduced in Exeter Road, is still being put forward.

County councillor David Nimmo Smith, cabinet member for environment, will make a final decision on whether that should go ahead on Thursday at 10.30am at County Hall.
