Teenager knows her way around orienteering

The Oxford Times: Bethany Kippin has been picked for the England orienteering team Bethany Kippin has been picked for the England orienteering team

BETHANY Kippin has successfully navigated her way around Oxford’s University Parks.

The orienteering event on Saturday was organised by the Thames Valley Orienteering Club and included six different courses, ranging from a course for beginners to the most challenging task.

Bethany, 13, right, a pupil at Headington School, took part in the most difficult course.

She said: “The course was quite long and involved a lot of criss-crossing across the park.

“It was quite interesting to go round the buildings and Oxford University’s science area, which you can’t normally do.

“The river had also overflowed and so that was the tricky part.”

Ms Kippin has just been picked for the England Orienteering team and will represent the nation in France in March.

The Chalgrove resident said: “I am really looking forward to it and it will be the first team I have represented a team.

“I think orienteering is exciting because it’s a cross between cross country running and geography, as you need to do map reading.”
