Better on the buses

The Oxford Times: Better on the buses Better on the buses

BUS passengers whose journeys have been complicated in recent days were given some better news yesterday when Abingdon Road reopened.

Stagecoach and the Oxford Bus Company were among the transport providers to return to their normal routes through the city after several days of disruption.

Seacourt Park and Ride has also re-opened, although some spaces may still be affected by flood water.

Time to get rid of the duopoly of Stagecoach and Oxford Bus/Thames Travel in Oxford. Even without flooding, the City cannot cope with the daily traffic flow from the two bus operators. This, especially where they operate on near-identical routes, like to Blackbird Leys - where its people get a bus every four minutes, and the City centre has to cope with 15 big double-deckers every hour! As for the on-going problems with flooding (despite all the money pumped into reducing flood problems) for the Abingdon Road, maybe the solution would be to build a raised roadway, since nothing else seems to have ever worked?
