GROWING up, everyone had their favourite teddy bear.

But these youngsters brought their teds along to the Ashmolean Museum to give them a bit of a makeover.

They were taking part in the Beaumont Street museum’s “warrior ted” craft session which allowed children to turn their favourite stuffed toy into an Anglo Saxon fighter.

Six-year-old Sebastian Chapple from Cowley brought his elephant called Ellie along for the event.

He said: “I had a good time and I made a sword and a shield and a hat for her.”

The youngsters were able to make their own shield, helmet, sword and tunic for their cuddly animals.

The Anglo-Saxons were Germanic tribes who migrated to Britain from Jutland and Northern Germany from the early fifth century.

They remained the dominant force in Britain until the Norman conquest in 1066.
