He will find out at the ceremony in March whether the group will pick up the famous golden statue.

Mr Adiri, a sound mixer, is also nominated for a BAFTA for his work on the 3D film, which stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.

He said: “It has been incredible, to be honest. It seems pretty surreal.

“We started working on this film about three years ago. The job is probably the most interesting and challenging I have done.”

Mr Adiri, 39, who is originally from Israel, has worked on numerous box office hits including Slumdog Millionaire.

He said he would definitely be going to the Oscar ceremony in Los Angeles, describing it as a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity”.

Gravity, directed by Alfonso Cuaron, is up for 10 Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Actress for Sandra Bullock, Best Director and Best Original Score.
