ROADWORKS in Botley Road, Oxford which led to long tailbacks are due to finish by the end of tomorrow, electricity bosses said today.

Scottish and Southern Electric has been digging at the junction with Ferry Hinksey Road to fix a fault which had caused homes to intermittently lose power since late December.

The fault was on an underground cable which was causing a fuse at the substation to blow.

An SSE spokesman said the fault has been fixed and the company’s workmen expect to have left the area by the end of Monday.

Three-way temporary traffic lights had led to long delays around the roadworks.

She said: “The repairs have taken place over this weekend.

“We had to take up to 127 customers off supply just to access the cable but we were rerouting the network so they have not had any further interruptions.

“I would like to thank the residents in the area for their patience and apologise to road users for the inconvenience.”

While the roadworks are still expected to impact tomorrow morning’s rush hour traffic, SSE said it expects to have left by the end of the day.
