SIR Christopher Chataway achieved a great deal in life, moving through politics, industry and professional sport with ease.
Yet it will be the mere minutes he spent alongside Sir Roger Bannister on May 6 1954 that will assure his place in history.
Sir Roger’s achievement of the first sub four-minute mile remains a milestone in sport and Sir Christopher is bound to its legacy.
Its stature in Oxford has only grown over the years – the track is now the Roger Bannister Running Track – and we are sure Sir Christopher’s name is one that will never be forgotten by those inspired by its history.
