MUSICIANS old and young came to play songs in Witney at the first session of the year of a popular open mic night.
Alan Lawrence, of Witney’s Charley Alan Band, entertained the audience in the Winchester Room of St Mary’s Church playing a resonator guitar. The 40-year-old mechanic said it was great to get 2014’s first session underway.
He said: “You have to perform there to know the rush and the adrenaline you get from the support of people listening.”
He and his band covered tracks by Lionel Richie and Eric Clapton.
Colin and Jean Greenway, who run Greenway Antiques, in Corn Street, launched the monthly sessions at the Church Green venue four years ago.
Mrs Greenway said performers aged 10 to 90 play every third Thursday of the month at 8pm.
She added: “We get people with different instruments from guitarists to harpists turning up. “It started out to raise funds for the church. It’s a good opportunity for beginners and semi-professional musicians.”
