PEOPLE in Oxfordshire are being warned to stay alert for flooding this weekend.

The Environment Agency has said that further rainfall on already saturated ground may worsen conditions and lead to flooding.

There are currently no flood warnings in Oxfordshire but the Met Office is forecasting some heavy rain in Oxford tomorrow and Sunday.

Peter Quarmby, regional duty manager for the Environment Agency, said: “Environment Agency teams continue to work around the clock monitoring river levels, clearing watercourses, and working with communities to make them aware of their flood risk.

“We want to stress to residents that the risk of further flooding has not passed and they need to remain vigilant to the possibility of further flooding- particularly from rising groundwater levels.

“We will closely monitor the way rivers respond to the expected rainfall and will issue further warnings if necessary.”

There is only one waterway in Oxfordshire on flood alert: Ginge Brook, for the Steventon area down to and including Sutton Courtenay.

This means residents in the area should be prepared as flooding is possible.

Advice for dealing with flooding is available on the Environment Agency website and from Floodline on 0845 988 1188.
