A SHOP worker was threatened with a knife in an attempted robbery at an Abingdon off-licence.

Three men shut themselves in the Local Stop store in Ock Street shortly before 10pm on Friday before threatening a cashier with the blade.

Police said the victim fended off one of the robbers before all three left the shop empty-handed.

Ermias Amassa, the shop owner’s cousin, said police had taken the store’s CCTV footage of raid.

He said: “I hope they are caught quickly. They don’t deserve to be on the streets because next time they will harm someone or even kill someone.”

The first man is described as white, 6ft to 6ft 2in tall and was wearing a grey jumper and had a scarf over his face. The second man was 5ft 8in and was wearing a black balaclava and a green jacket.

The third man was white, short in height and was wearing a dark navy hooded top with the hood up, blue jeans and light-coloured gloves.

Det Sgt Tony Maddison, from the CID team at Abingdon, said: “While we would never advise anyone to challenge an armed man, the member of staff showed great bravery in fending off the robber and thankfully wasn’t hurt in the incident.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the Ock Street area around this time, who may have seen these men and have information about their movements, to come forward.”
