TV’s Great British Bake Off quarter finalist Christine Wallace lent her support to a charity baking competition in Faringdon on Saturday.

Held at the town’s Corn Exchange on the corner of Gloucester and Marlborough Streets, the event featured more than 80 cakes in a range of shapes, sizes and styles.

Teacher Emma Oyston, of Eagles in Faringdon, organised the bake off to raise money for Cancer Research, and was supported by the town’s Portwell Angel bar.

The 29-year-old said Mrs Wallace, from Didcot, judged the loaf cake category, and the winners received Faringdon Bake Off aprons, as well as afternoon tea at the nearby Sudbury House Hotel.

She said: “The whole thing went really well.

“We managed to raise £1,069 and the standard of cakes was very high. They were almost all sold by the end.

“And it was lovely to have Christine there, she was very friendly and a great judge.”
