A 47-year-old man who had a history of drug misuse died because of a lethal combination of heroin and alcohol, an inquest heard yesterday.
Richard Cobb was found dead by a friend at his home in Bonar Road, Headington, Oxford, on August 21, with drug paraphernalia.
The inquest at Oxfordshire Coroner’s Court heard that a total of 277 milligrammes (mg) of alcohol was found in Mr Cobb’s blood, which is more than three times the legal drink-drive limit of 80 mg per litre of blood.
There was also 211mg per litre of blood of morphine found, which the inquest heard is indicative of the use of morphine and heroin.
Pathologist Ben Phillips said in a statement that Mr Cobb’s cause of death was heroin and alcohol overdose.
Oxfordshire coroner Darren Salter said: “When taken together, they have a combined depressant effect which can cause respiratory failure.”
He recorded a verdict of drug and alcohol-related death.
