POLICE swooped on a city housing block yesterday morning to reports of men armed with knives entering someone’s home.

At least five people were arrested at Osney Court, off Botley Road, while at least six police vehicles were at the scene.

One resident said police had descended on the area at 7am.

Another said she heard shouting and swearing at the time.

Thames Valley Police confirmed a number of people had been arrested.

Some cannabis was also recovered from the scene.

The incident involved a number of foreign nationals, although it is not yet clear how many or where they were from.

The police were called at 6.45am after a woman rang to say three men had entered her flat with knives.

Police said three men were apprehended near the scene, matching descriptions she had given, shortly afterwards.

Those three men were arrested on suspicion of drug possession, and it is understood two others were detained.
