FATHER Christmas may have recently delivered the latest in hi-tech gaming technology to many lucky boys and girls, but they have the chance to try out technology from years gone by at a new exhibition.

The Vale and Downland Museum, in Wantage, is hosting a display of vintage games consoles from the past 30 years, loaned by the Museum of Computing, in Swindon.

The Pong to Playstation display, which runs until Saturday, February 3, shows the earliest and most unusual machines that ever graced a living room.

Pictured pitting their wits against each other on a Nintendo game are Richard and Megan Hay, from Didcot.

From the world's first TV tennis game, through the rise of gaming companies such as Atari, Nintendo, Sega and Sony, more than 40 of the best-loved consoles and accessories are on display.

The original Super Mario, Sonic the Hedgehogand Space Invaders are just some of the games available on original 1980s machines.

Simon Webb, from the Museum of Computing, will give a talk about its work and the exhibition at the Wantage museum, in Church Street, on Wednesday, January 24, from 2pm to 4pm.
