ABINGDON Road buses will continue to be diverted via Iffley Road today and there will be one train an hour travelling from Oxford and Didcot.

Oxford Bus Company’s City X3, X13 and 300 park-and-ride service will continue to be diverted along Iffley Road, as they were yesterday. The city 35 will still be diverted via Bagley Wood Road, the ring road and Iffley Road.

Seacourt park-and-ride is expected to remain closed and the Thornhill park-and-ride 400 service will start and finish at Oxford Rail Station.

Company spokesman Phil Ashworth said services diverted along Iffley Road had been delayed up to half-an-hour yesterday.

He added: “Unless the situation deteriorates overnight, we hope to be able to run as good a service today as yesterday.”

First Great Western said it would continue to run one train an hour between Oxford and Didcot, and four trains an hour between Didcot and London Paddington, compared with the usual 25 an hour.

Spokesman James Davis explained that traffic lights malfunctioning because of flooding are being manually operated, with trains running slower past those points.

He said the usual two services from Didcot to Bristol Temple Meads would run today every hour, but only one service an hour from Didcot to South Wales, reduced from two.

The company advised commuters they might find it easier to get to London by catching a Chiltern Railways service from Banbury to London Marylebone, which is not currently affected by flooding.

No-one from Stagecoach Oxfordshire was available for comment on diversions to its bus services in Oxford.
