OXFORDSHIRE County Council is planning to make cycle improvements between the two halves of Harwell parish.

It will see a series of measures created on the A417, the Winnaway bridleway and the A4185.

The council hopes that the scheme will benefit both cyclists using the road for commuting or for leisure.

To help cyclists crossing the A417, and reduce traffic speeds in the area, a new mini-roundabout at its junction with the B4493 will be created while new paths and street lighting will be put in.

Pedestrian and cyclist islands will also be installed at this location.

Meanwhile the existing path along the Winnaway bridleway will be widened and resurfaced and a new signalised crossing will be installed on the A4185.

Existing footways on the A417 and A4185 will be converted to cycle tracks under Sections 65(1) and 66(4) of the Highways Act 1980.

This project was initiated by Harwell Oxford Joint Venture following a successful bid to the Local Enterprise Partnership Growing Places Fund.

A consultation has been launched on the scheme which will run until March 10. To comment visit myconsultations.oxfordshire.gov.uk
