Construction work will start today on the new Blackbird Leys Pavilion, which will cost £430,000.

The pavilion will be owned by Oxford City Council and replace a pavillion that was condemed eight years ago.

The new facility off Pegasus Road will consist of changing rooms, official rooms, toilets and a tuck shop.

Mark Lygo, board member for parks, sports and events, said: “This will provide local teams with a high standard of facilities and we hope that it will increase the number of players.”

The work is part of the city council’s pavilion modernisation programme, which aims to modernise 12 pavilions and build a brand new facility at Grandpont Recreation Ground.
