ED Vaizey spent a “soggy afternoon” walking around fields near Faringdon where hundreds of homes could soon be built.

The Wantage and Didcot MP was invited by Great Coxwell Parish Council, which is worried infrastructure will not be able to cope with so many homes.

On February 7 he toured fields where housing is planned. Some were flooded.

Judith Heathcoat, county councillor for Faringdon, said: “One field has been flooded since Christmas and Ed saw how bad it was.

“We spent a soggy afternoon walking.”

Housing developer SGR (Faringdon) Ltd got permission to build 200 homes on Fernham Fields, between Great Coxwell and Faringdon, in December.

With just over 100 homes in the village at present, that estate will treble its size, and now Welbeck Strategic Land wants to build another 200 homes at the Coxwell Road and A420 junction.

The plans are due to be decided by Vale of White Horse District Council on February 27.

Mr Vaizey is to protest against the Welbeck plan.
