OLYMPIC badminton champion Gail Emms had a shot at inspiring a school to be the best it can be on a visit last week.

Ms Emms, now retired from the sport, visited Crowmarsh Gifford CofE Primary School on Wednesday to launch its Be the Best You Can Be programme.

The 2012 Olympic legacy scheme aims to inspire children to set themselves goals and never give up.

On Wednesday morning, Ms Emms told children how she had never been a naturally gifted player but always set herself goals to beat.

She played her own mother until she could defeat her and then had to set herself a new goal.

She said: “I believe in the programme as I am a true example of being the best you can be.

“I was never the most naturally talented player but I made sure I gave 110 per cent in every match.

“Pride in yourself is one of the best feelings in the world.”
