CHILDREN blasted off into an imaginary world as part of a project to boost language skills.

The youngsters from the nursery class at Cutteslowe Primary School on Thursday had a visit from Explorer Dome to boost their learning.

Staff from the Bristol-based planetarium visited the Wren Road school to give them a hands-on presentation about the galaxy.

Four-year-old Lyndon Hanson was one of the pupils who took part. He said: “I had lots of fun. It is like a soft balloon.”

Sarah Pugh, early years co-ordinator, said: “Our project Blast Off has been based upon storytelling and the development of high quality language.

“The Explorer Dome has capitalised on this and brought together all the skills learnt this term. It was a fantastic resource.”

Cutteslowe Primary School is one of the schools taking part in the Oxford Mail-backed Reading Campaign.
