AN area of Oxford was cordoned off this morning in the city centre after reports of a suspicious package.
Tape was put up at Wellington Square at the end of St John's Street off Beaumont Street in the city centre.
Thames Valley Police was called to Wellington Square at 7.40am to reports of a suspicious package.
Police officers attended the scene and cordoned off the area.
Force spokesman Rhianne Pope said: “It was quickly established that the package posed no threat and the cordon has been lifted.”
It came just over a week after a suspect device was delivered to the Army recruitment office nearby that an organisation calling itself the IRA claimed responsibility for.
