MEMBERS of The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) group are hosting an event on Saturday to increase the number of trees in Blackbird Leys.

As part of the Government’s Big Tree Plant campaign, the group hopes to develop a wooded area in Fry’s Hill Park.

Monique van Assouw, TCV’s community project officer, said: “This wooded area will add to the park’s character and at the same time can provide a great habitat and food supply for birds, mammals and insects.

“We’re delighted to be working at Blackbird Leys.

“This planting scheme has enormous benefits for the people taking part as well as the local area by helping improve local green spaces.”

Scott Seamons, Oxford City Council board member for housing, said: “The Conservation Volunteers’ project will improve the landscape around the new skate park and reintroduce some trees to the park.

“I encourage people from across the Leys to come along, bring their families and plant a tree.

“It’s an opportunity for the community to be involved as we reshape the park, diversify usage and get the best out of green spaces across our estate.”
