FOOTBALL coach Derek Measor was remembered with a minute’s silence before two of the clubs he worked with faced each other on Saturday.

The 56-year-old father-of-two, from Chalgrove, died when his bike was involved in a collision with a Nissan Micra on Watlington Road, near Garsington, last Monday morning.

Players and coaching staff in Marston Saints’ home game against Oxford University Press (OUP) stood and remembered him before kick-off.

Mr Measor was an active member of the city’s football scene as a player and manager. He spent 15 years at Rover Cowley FC in the Oxfordshire Senior League and was club secretary until it folded three years ago.

The Manchester United fan also helped out at Watlington Town FC and Marston Saints. He had been assistant manager of the OUP team this season.

Marston Saints secretary Tony Wheeler said players and coaches all shared memories of Mr Measor at Saturday’s game.

He said: “A few people made a special effort to come down, and lots of people were just talking about all the years in the past when Derek was involved in the clubs.”

Both sides signed a card of condelences after the match, which Marston Saints won 1-0.
