Youngsters take stage by storm in gangster musical

First published in News

CHILDREN took centre stage for three days over half-term with a series of activities in Wolvercote based around hit 1976 gangster musical Bugsy Malone.

Amelie Cooper, 11, went along to the Oxford Academy of Performing Arts half-term holiday course with sister Hazel, nine, and cousin Ella, seven. The pupil at Cherwell Secondary School played the female lead in Bugsy Malone alongside leading male, 10-year-old Matt Vilim.

She said: “I had a great time playing Tallulah.

It was the first time I have ever sung a solo.”

Parents Amanda and Andrew Cooper went to see their daughters in the musical at Wolvercote Village Hall.

Mrs Cooper said: “They learnt an awful lot in a few days and the course was brilliant.

“The girls came home buzzing each night and we had a great time watching the show.”

The course featured 19 children aged eight to 12.
