A 23-YEAR-OLD man was last night in hospital with head injuries after a serious assault in St Ebbe’s Street, Oxford.

Police cordoned off the city centre street following the attack at about 3am yesterday.

The victim is being treated at the John Radcliffe Hospital and Thames Valley Police have described his condition as serious.

A 40-year-old Bicester man was yesterday in police custody on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

The street was yesterday cordoned off between the junction with Pembroke Street and Camera nightclub. A kebab van outside the cordon was also tied up with police tape.

The Royal Blenheim pub in the street opened as normal at 11am.

Staff said they did not know what had happened and did not believe the incident was linked to the pub.

Student Ying Tang, 17, lives above the pub with her mother and had to be signed in and out of the building by Police Community Support Officers.

She said: “I went to bed at 11pm the previous night and didn’t hear anything.”
