SPORTS students at Burford School were treated to a talk by an Olympic rower and author yesterday.
Alison Mowbray, a silver medallist at the 2004 Athens Olympics, visited the school to celebrate World Book Day today, following the release of her new autobiography.
About 100 students were in the school hall for the afternoon talk, before an evening event was held with 50 parents and children.
Dr Mowbray, who is from Yorkshire, said: “Silver medallists don’t tend to write biographies, which makes it a bit different.
“I actually only started rowing when I was older, about 18, which is different to what you expect.
“I wasn’t a sporty kid and I wasn’t in all the sports teams.
“People often say now you need to be good by the time you are 10 if you are going to make it, so I was inspiring them.”
Librarian Lynne Cooper, who organised the visit, said: “They were all very excited to meet her and see the medal.”
Dr Mowbray’s autobiography, Gold Medal Flapjack, Silver Medal Life, was published before Christmas.
