PUPILS at Drayton Community Primary School are celebrating an improved Ofsted rating.

The school, in Hilliat Fields, discovered it has progressed from a satisfactory rating to good last week after inspectors visited in February.

Headteacher David Mayer congratulated the school’s 145 children, seven staff and team of governors for their work.

He said: “We are delighted. We have worked really hard over the last two years making the curriculum interesting and focusing on the teaching.

“But we are not going to be relaxing now. It is thrilling they have recognised us but we want even better next time – we want to get the best rating possible when they come again.”

The Ofsted inspection report said: “Teachers make learning interesting and help pupils to become enthusiastic learners by providing worthwhile activities and good resources.

“Pupils behave well and feel safe. They are helpful and friendly and enjoy coming to school.”

The report added that pupils’ spelling required improvement.
