MORE than 100 girls from Headington School took to the streets for a litter pick on Wednesday as part of OxClean.

They were accompanied by sixth form pupils and staff and collected dozens of bags of rubbish during the afternoon.

Emilie Walker, 13, who boards at the school, said: “I thought it was fun and exciting.

“It’s good because it helps the community and the environment and makes the place look better.”

The school participates in OxClean’s litter picking events every year and also tidied up around Headington last weekend for its annual Spring Clean event.

Items they found included a discarded child’s bicycle.

OxClean is an initiative run by Oxford Civic Society and campaigns to keep the city tidy throughout the year. More than a thousand people turned out to participate in its Spring Clean event this year.

It is supported by Oxford City Council, the Oxford Mail’s sister paper The Oxford Times and local community groups and schools.
