CARE home residents in Oxford enjoyed a tea party with a twist to celebrate being shortlisted for a healthcare award.

The Sanctuary Care home in Iffley, which opened in January last year, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Pinders Healthcare Design Awards.

The judging panel visited and presented the care home’s team with a cheque for £500, which they then donated to the Alzheimer’s Society.

Along with their tea and cake, Mary Glaspole from Mad Hatter’s Teas and Tours came and performed as the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland.

The 31-year-old performer said: “I dressed up in costume and told residents a little bit about the history of Alice and her Wonderland and her connection with Oxford.

“They all had lovely hats in the theme of Alice, and we played games like pin the grin on the Cheshire Cat.”

One of the residents, 82-year-old Brian Fox, said: “We had a most interesting afternoon, I thoroughly enjoyed the party.”
