CHILDREN with cancer in North Oxfordshire will now be able to get more treatment at Banbury’s Horton General Hospital.
From May, there will be more treatments for haematology and oncology patients at the Horton, meaning patients will not have to travel to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital.
Transfusions, antibiotics and immunity-boosting drugs will be among the treatments available.
The hospital said that elective reviews will also be available, but only subject to the availability of specific doctors.
Tony McDonald, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust general manager for children’s and women’s division, said he was “delighted” adding: “A key part of our children’s strategy is bringing services closer to children, young people and their families and the communities in which they live.”
Paediatric Dr Tania Davison said: “This can be a very difficult time for families, so if reducing the amount of travelling for treatment makes it easier for them, we are very happy to help.”
