JOSH King has been named young fundraiser of the year by a charity he helped.
Josh, 14, pictured, from Grove, was awarded the prize by Oxford bereavement support charity SeeSaw after he helped raise £5,000 for them with a sponsored cycle ride last year.
The King Alfred’s Academy pupil recruited 35 others to cycle 50 miles around South Oxfordshire with him for the charity which supported his three cousins after their mother – Josh’s aunt – died of breast cancer.
He said he had no idea he was up for an award when he attended SeeSaw’s thank you evening for fundraisers and patrons last month in Abingdon.
He said: “It was a good surprise, I didn’t know I was going to get it.
“SeeSaw supported my cousins through it and took their minds off it.”
Josh’s aunt, a pre-school teaching assistant from Drayton, died in September 2012 at the age of 43 after a four-year battle with cancer.
Her brother, Josh’s dad Jason King, said he was proud of his son.
Mr King, 42, a lorry driver, said: “I was a very proud dad, he did a superb job and it was all his idea.
“He’s a very clever lad.”
When his name was announced, Josh’s mum Tina said she burst into tears.
She said: “It was a complete surprise, we didn’t expect it at all. I was very proud.”
