RESIDENTS behind the scheme at Osney Lock breathed a sign of relief when the 11.5-tonne steel screw centrepiece was fitted last week.
But it soon became clear the concrete platform, which was built before Christmas to support the gear box and generator, was in the wrong place.
Workers have been on site this week to make the screw fit the platform.

One of the people behind the community-funded Osney Hydro scheme, Dr Barbara Hammond, said: “When we put the screw in they realised they had put the plinth in the wrong place – it was in line with the screw when it was meant to be off centre.
“The contractors have been doing bits and pieces putting right the mistake.
“It won’t delay the project at all.”

The £500,000 hydro project will generate 165,500kwh of electricity a year, equivalent to the amount needed to power more than 50 houses. It is the first community-owned hydro scheme to be built on the Thames.
When the Oxford Mail asked the Environment Agency about the problem a spokesman said they were not managing the project and referred us to Dr Hammond for further information.
