RESIDENTS can now enter the Oxford in Bloom competition.

The free competition is open to all residents, schools and businesses in Oxford, and there is a special category for under-16s.

People can enter their gardens, balconies or planters, or a communal area.

Categories include best kept gardens and beautiful containers or balconies.

There are also commercial and community displays, gardening for the disabled and a section for under-16s. A new category for Florence Park in Bloom launches this year as part of the estate’s 80th anniversary celebrations.

Board member for parks, sports and events Mark Lygo said: “This is a great opportunity for everyone to get involved, watch our communities spring into flower and provide a colourful backdrop to our everyday lives.”

Chairwoman of the Oxford in Bloom committee Karen Roberts said: “The Oxford in Bloom competition has been going for many years and is an important part of Oxford life for the many residents that enter year after year.”

Closing date for entries is June 29 for schools, and July 6 for all other categories.

Judges, including members of the Royal Society of Horticulturists and other experienced gardeners, will be viewing entries from July 21. Each entry will be judged on colour, tidiness, impact, quality of plants and how well the garden has been looked after.
