Major the Oxford Dog, beloved of Oxford schoolchildren, has died aged nine-and-a-half.
Major belonged to author Mary Meagher, whose 2009 book about her wire-haired dachshund sold 2,000 copies, mostly in Oxford. After its publication, Major visited hundreds of children at schools around Oxford who wanted to meet its star.
Major died on Friday, after being diagnosed with a heart condition in November.
