PLANS to build 250 homes in Carterton have been approved.

West Oxfordshire District Council yesterday unanimously agreed to accept David Wilson Homes’ detailed application to develop land next to Kilkenny Lane Country Park on the northern edge of the town.

There will be two, three and four-bedroom houses, including 75 affordable homes. The development already had outline consent.

The developer has agreed to make community contributions, including £160,000 to improve Carterton Leisure Centre.

The speed limit on part of Shilton Road at the entrance to the site will also be reduced from 60mph to 40mph.

Councillor Maxine Crossland, who represents the Carterton ward, said: “We’ve reached the point where this is as good as it’s going to get so I’m largely happy with it.”

The developer has also submitted plans to build 66 homes to the north of this site.

At the same meeting, the council’s lowlands area planning sub-committee approved plans to build 14 homes on the former dairy site in Oxford Hill, Witney.

But councillors have deferred a decision on plans to build 38 homes on the eastern edge of Aston. Villagers and Aston Parish Council are concerned about the loss of wildlife, specifically water voles and grass snakes, and an increased flooding risk, but experts had no objections.

The developer has pledged to fund improvements to improve the sewerage system between Aston and Bampton but the council said it wants to see plans showing how it will be upgraded before accepting the proposal.
