THESE are the images of what the new Oxford Parkway station will look like.

It is the first new station to be built in the county since 1935 and will be built at the site of a former World War Two grain silo and includes an 800-space carpark and 100 cycle spaces.

It is part of the Chiltern Railways’ £130m Evergreen Three project, to create a new rail link between Oxford and London Marylebone via Kidlington, Bicester, High Wycombe.

The line from Bicester to Oxford Parkway is due to open next summer, and the section between Oxford Parkway and Oxford Station will open the following year in 2016.

Rob Brighouse, managing director at Chiltern Railways, said: “Oxford Parkway will transform travel between Oxford and London when it launches in summer 2015.

“Our new station and service will provide significant economic, social and environmental benefits for people in Oxfordshire.”

The Bicester/Oxford line closed in February. The first new rail tracks were laid earlier this month.

The Chiltern Railways project is part of a larger £290m scheme to re-open the East-West rail link from Reading to Bedford, via Oxford, Bicester Town and Milton Keynes.

Last November the former grain silo that had dominated the skyline from the A34 and the Oxford-Kidlington Road for decades was demolished to make way for the brand new station.

Chiltern Railways will also rebuild Bicester and Islip stations.
