DRAGONS have been appearing all over a South Oxfordshire village as residents mark St George’s Day.

Villagers in West Hagbourne near Didcot have been creating the beasts and positioning their models around the village in a contest that has now become a tradition.

Organiser Valerie Walton, chairwoman of the West Hagbourne Village Association, said there were more than 10 dragons around the village.

She said: “It is quite a tradition in the village and it attracts a lot of people.

“We feel it is important to celebrate St George’s Day because very often it is going by and a lot of people don’t recognise it at all.

“We started doing it six years ago and it was such a success, and something that anyone can get involved in. We encourage children and their parents to get involved.

“A lot of people come from surrounding villages to come and see the dragons and they all take photographs.”

The winner of the best model dragon will be announced at the weekend.
