SCULPTORS from far and wide have been arriving in the village of Ardington near Wantage to prepare for the Oxfordshire Artweeks festival.

The village will host more than 70 pieces from 50 different sculptors from next Saturday to May 11.

All the sculptures will be up for sale and everything must go, with proceeds earmarked for a range of local charities.

Event organiser Lendon Scantlebury said: “We want to put on a fantastic show that not only appeals to Artweeks goers but also creates a change in ambience the entire village can experience.”

Sculptor Allan McKenzie who has more than 15 pieces on show, including a granite creation entitled Vice Versa, began setting up on Thursday.

He said: “My pieces are all to do with the family bond and family unity.

“If you look at Vice Versa from the base it’s two people standing back to back and at the top they are kissing — it shows the diverse nature of relationships.”
